No other respiratory virus I have ever heard of routinely causes this dangerous double whammy.
Thus I have long wondered whether this particularly nasty consequence of infection had been engineered in...especially when I saw 3 papers, previously mentioned in this blog, that found multiple human epitopes (up to 30) lurking in the viral genome.
Now it is said that omicron is causing a much milder illness. Could it be that with its many mutations, the ability to cause this second phase of illness has mutated away?

Why is it that "omicron" is considered a variant continuation of the "sars-cov2" virus, rather than its own distinct entity? Has some direct lineage actually been established? Might it simply be the flu that has been put on hold for the past year or so? Or some other chimera engineered to keep the pandemic ball rolling? Also, I am troubled by the incredibly rapid emergence of "omicron" globally. Announced over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, then a few days later it has presented worldwide. In my own lifetime of ebolas and whatnot, I cannot recall any similarly rapid and broadly-distributed dispersion of a pathogen. There is a lot to this story that seems like it has been engineered, technically and otherwise. As I have noted previously, the scope and planning of this operation has been far too thorough and elaborate to have been left to chance.
What would Public Menace #1 Fauci say?
If it crossed with the common cold, that's hopeful .. But, what's the likelihood it could be lab-made? Interesting to see how someone with initials YD is asking thorough questions about lab-origins and doing investigative work in that vein, yet seems to take statements about vaccine safety at face value ...
Hendra virus (HeV) and Nipah virus (NiV), two closely related and naturally occurring henipaviruses, cause a similar spectrum of disease which ranges from asymptomatic infection to lethal cytokine storm with multisystem organ failure. For both viruses, native bats are the natural hosts; disease occurs in horses (HeV), pigs (NiV), and humans (HeV and NiV).
There are numerous other naturally occurring examples in veterinary medicine and wildlife medicine. Nature has devised some really nasty viruses. If you want to be really disturbed, take a look at African horse sickness... (Best not; it's not for the faint of heart.)
The scary part about this pandemic is how the medical establishment is keeping people from getting early treatment. Patients have to wait at home until they go into respiratory failure before care is initiated. Who does that???!!! That would be like not treating hypertension until a person has a stroke. Or not treating angina chest pain until a person has a heart attack.
Our official choices are between a dodgy vaccine or no treatment, hoping the cytokine storm doesn't strike you. Under those coercive conditions, the vaccine seems like the better choice. How about comparing the vaccine to early or preventative care?
Could Omnicron just be the virus reverting to the state in which is found in nature? After all, bats and humans have been around each other for thousands of years. It's not like bats are a species new to man.
Responding to Anonymous @ Dec 11, 10:56AM -- The lack of preventative and early treatment is truly a failure of our medical community. There are various preventative and early treatments which appear to have had great success. BUT you won't see or hear that in the media or your average family doctor. Could it be because EUAs are only valid if "no other options exist." These certainly would be other options.
