If you get really sick you will need prescription drugs. But for those who want to maximize what they can do to fight COVID using easily available Over-The-Counter (OTC) treatments, or who want to stock up with a package of items to be ready, here is a list for you:
Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Zinc as previously discussed.
Pepcid (famotidine) up to 80 mg 3x daily and Periactin (cyproheptadine) 6 mg 2-3 times daily--these block histamine 1 and 2 receptors, reduce stomach acid which may help those patients with severe nausea, and have other actions that may be helpful.
Melatonin 10-12 mg before bed, which helps sleep and has profound benefits for COVID, according to eleven studies
NAC or N-acetyl cysteine, 500 or 600 mg per day
Quercetin 250 mg 2-4 times daily
Aspirin 325 mg daily for one month to prevent platelet activation by spike and prevent clotting
WATER is worth mentioning. It is common for people with COVID to experience food (and even water) tasting terrible. It is also common to have high fevers above 101 degrees for a prolonged period, or for fevers to recur. It is very easy to get dehydrated when you have fever and have not doubled or tripled the amount you drink. Also, the secretions in your lungs get thicker and can get stuck in your airways, plugging them and making it harder to breathe.
Dehydration can equal hospitalization. So you have to find a way to take in adequate liquids, even if you are nauseated or the things you normally drink taste terrible. Ginger tea, gingerale, ginger beer, candied ginger may help nausea. Sometimes coca cola works--you may prefer it without the bubbles--shake or stir them out. Broth, soup, jello, pudding, popsicles, smoothies--whatever works, but be sure you are urinating every few hours.
Thanks for all your hard work
