More Information on Ivins' Therapist

From a story in the Frederick News-Post:
Duley's fiance of seven years, Mike McFadden, spoke to The Frederick News-Post on Saturday from their home in Williamsport and provided a statement on her behalf.

"Jean is currently at an undisclosed location," McFadden said.

Duley had numerous meetings with the FBI in the past month, McFadden said, but he declined to provide specific information about those meetings.

He said Ivins had threatened Duley's life.

Court documents state that Ivins had made "homicidal threats, actions, plans, threats and actions towards therapist."

Duley, a social worker, led counseling sessions attended by Ivins.

The story of Ivins' death and investigation by the FBI broke early Friday. Since then, McFadden said, Duley has been hounded by the national press.

Someone broke into her car Friday night, McFadden said, though no police report was filed. "Nothing was taken," he said, "but everything was jumbled up."

Duley told the court she had been subpoenaed to testify before a federal grand jury Friday. She was reluctant to become involved in the FBI's investigation of Ivins, McFadden said. "She had to quit her job and is now unable to work, and we have spent our savings on attorneys."
This report raises a number of interesting questions. Why did she have to quit her job? Why is she unable to work? Ivins is deceased and no threat, if he ever was a threat. Was she instructed to hide out by federal employees?

  1. The most important paragraph omits the related
news about the July 31st story regarding the bid to the HHD from Emergent Bio-Solutions, formerly
Bio-port who if I am not mistaken Ivins was brought into to "fix" the vaccine aassociated with
problems for US troops who were forced to accept it.

"Ivins shared two anthrax-related patents with other scientists. The first, filed in November 1994, was for a system to produce a protective antigen against bacillus anthracis. The second, filed in March 2000, was for making an anthrax vaccine. The other local inventors listed on the patents could not be reached for comment."

The related news, from July 31st?

"Emergent BioSolutions Submits Proposal in Response to HHS RFP for Development and Procurement of a Recombinant Protective Antigen Anthrax Vaccine
Thursday July 31, 6:15 pm ET
The company's submission provides the U.S. Government with the critical option to select a domestic source to meet planned procurement of 25 million doses of rPA vaccine

ROCKVILLE, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Emergent BioSolutions Inc. (NYSE:EBS - News) announced today that it has submitted a proposal in response to a request for proposal (RFP) issued by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for a recombinant protective antigen anthrax vaccine (rPA). Emergent’s rPA vaccine candidate is a reformulated and more stable form of the rPA 102 vaccine originally developed at the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID) and is well-positioned to be a leading candidate for an award under this RFP. One Phase II clinical trial of rPA 102 has been completed.

HHS’s RFP is designed to meet the government’s stated goal to procure 25 million doses of an rPA anthrax vaccine for the Strategic National Stockpile (SNS). In the event that Emergent receives an award under the rPA RFP, doses of rPA procured by HHS would be in addition to the 18.75 million doses of the company’s FDA-licensed product, BioThrax® (Anthrax Vaccine Adsorbed), that HHS is procuring under the existing $448M contract with Emergent. HHS has indicated that any awards under the rPA RFP would be granted at the end of 2008, at the earliest."

Sorry- call me a CTist, but I the timing of these
events rather suspect, especially when one factors in the connections between this company and the
    Bush administration.

None of those things are being discussed-
    ANYWHERE.

PS: Another DU member posted an archived
    thread with EXTENSIVE information about
    Bio-port/Emergent Bio-solutions and Intervac
form a few years ago. It went into great detail
about the history and Bush family conections
    to the company.
It was "disappeared" from the discussion thread.
Any one else find that odd?

  2. I'd like to know why EBS' CEO Fuad El-Hibri sold 8 M shares of stock the day after Ivins went into the hospital, and 8M more the day after he died, for a total sale worth about $200 million. (He owns Intervac too).--Meryl

  3. Yes Meryl- I posted that on DU as well... El-Hibri was not the only insider trader who made a
    ton of money that week.
If you go to the yahoo finance pages and search the EBS page,
you can view all the the insider
    holdings and activities.

I'm hoping a real journalist will
    look into this further.
That is, if there are any real journalists left.
    Bill Moyers perhaps?

Sorry, the more I dig, the
    more this whole thing looks
like a cover up of some sort.

While I don't think Ivins ended up dead over patents, I do think, given the history of the players involved, there is a very real possibility that Ivins knew something about the vaccineintended for the public that those who stood to profit from the contract, didn't want known. Am I way off base to wonder about that possibility?

Am I mistaken? Was he or was he not brought into work on it
when problems arose in the troops forced to be injected with it?

Is it not possible, due to his
professional ethics as a scientist, that he refused to
    go along with something that
he knew might cause further harm?

I just find so many of the events and connections worth
    a thorough investigation.
    David Kelly springs to mind.

The story so far, as written by
the corporate owned media, reads like a BAD version of
    "People" magazine at the
check out line in the local market.

Thank you so much for your blog and work.

I look forward to reading more.

  4. "undisclosed location"

Hmmm...is she sharing the same undisclosed location as Cheney?

  5. Not to mention "Who has a fiance for 7 years?"

To me, that's more damning than the whole rest of the iceberg. "fiance of seven years ..."

  6. Rather than slurring Ivins' _latest_ therapist to be terrified by him, you should admit that his previous therapist in 2000 also reported him to the police -- that time for explaining that he intended to poison a young woman if she lost a soccer match.

The FBI didn't make Ivins crazy in 2000.

  7. Little known fact. Because it is classified.
The DOD was going to build an Anthrax vaccine facility of it's own at the Aberdeen proving grounds because of Bioports' inconsistent product. This was probably the DOD meeting Ivins talked about in the alleged emails. But then the mailings happened and all of a sudden the FDA quietly approved Bioports garbage vaccine and the general stopped calling about building the Aberdeen facility.
